Training for Mt. Everest

This past Sunday's hike was definitely an experience! I broke in my new trekking boots, a great pair from Merrill, along with my new Columbia jacket. Both were a huge success! Although, I have to admit, my legs were extremely sore from wearing the boots. I'm used to wearing very light trainers and even my other hiking boots (also from Merrill) are very light. After about the 15km, my legs felt like dead weight! It was almost as though I was treading through thick mud uphill the whole hike! Not much fun, but at the same time, the training was what was most important.

The most fun and enjoyable part of the hike was hiking with my husband Marco. I can't tell you what a difference it makes when you have someone you love and dear to your heart train with you. I treasure our hikes together and will reflect on them when I need them the most during my trip should I face any physical or mental challenges.

As for my training, I took Monday off (well, my day off still consists of some sort of activity which was walking)

Tuesday I ran 10 sets of steep stairs in the Rosedale Valley Ravine with my colleague and Nutritionist Sarah Maughan. (www.sarahmaughan.ca) and did some light strength training for shoulders and core. I always do core work!

Today my colleague Mike Bentogolvi put me through a tough leg and tricep work out. I don't think my legs were fully recovered from the hike on Sunday but at least I was able to experience lactic acid build up and recovery!

Tomorrow I'm ready for back and biceps, and NO LEGS!

Stay active and anything is possible!
